Podiatry is the word used to describe the branch of medicine concerned with the lower limb, particularly the foot and ankle. Podiatrists diagnose, treat and prevent foot problems using chemical, physical, mechanical and surgical therapies.
They receive core medical training by studying anatomy , physiology , pharmacology, general medicine and microbiology. They then go on to more advanced and specialised training in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the feet.
All Podiatrists are required to be registered with the Health Professions Council (check). This ensures that the Podiatrist you see, regularly updates their skills at postgraduate level.
WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CHIROPODIST AND A PODIATRIST?
There is no difference. A podiatrist is the internationally recognized name for foot specialists.
